TALK BY DR.Gajendra Singh ON DIWALI BURNS: PREVENTION & INITIAL TREATMENT
The morning assembly on 15 October was conducted on the theme of Diwali and a special guest, Dr. Gajendra Singh, HOD, Burns & Plastic Surgery at HINDUJA Mumbai graced the occasion.He is also the Officer bearer of the National Academy of Burns India.Dr. Gajendra Singh was here to deliver a talk to the students of V-X on Diwali Burns: Prevention & Initial treatment. The highlights of her talk are given below:

* Preparation before burning the crackers:
- Crackers must be burnt under the supervision of an adult member of the family.
- Wear cotton clothes, no synthetic and flowing clothes
- A bucket of water must be kept in the area where crackers will be burnt.
* Do's & Don't of burning crackers:
- Never keep your face near the cracker.
- Never hold an ‘anar’/’chakri’ or any other cracker at the time of burning it. Always put it on the ground
- Use glass bottles for ‘rocket’ and not plastic bottles.
- Do not jump on a ‘chakri’ while it is burning
* First aid in case burn injuries are sustained:
- If clothes catch fire, then stop, drop and roll to dampen the fire.
- A copious amount of water is to be used to wash the burnt area with water for 15-20 minutes.
- Do not put toothpaste or aloe vera on the burnt area; instead apply some cream and consult your nearest doctor.
